    An (old) idea ?

*** Didn't know where this post belonged so move it if it's in the wrongplace ***

    I just thought of something.

You know there are a lotpeople who can't stand it when rollover images don't appear immediatly (I'm one of them).

So I thought , what if I load the onmouserover images somewhere hidden on the page ( like as a cell background with a image over it so it's covered) and do this for every onmouserover images.

Is this a good idea or has it been proposed and used a 1.000.000 times before ?

I think it's a good & easy way as long as you don't have to much images.

Sure, I guess... Why not use an image pre-loading javascript. You can find them at any cut-and-paste javascript site. This will download the images into the user's cache and the user never sees them until they do a rollover.

Pretty ingenious and supported by most browsers even the 5 year old 4th generation ones.

I know that there are javascripts for them but for some reason I never liked (and learned) javascript. So I try to do as much as possible without JS.

Alltough I do realise I'll have to really learn it someday.

Oh and I'm not much of a copy/paster , if I can't code it myself then I won't use it. ( best way to learn things or to limit myselfself )

But, umm, most image rollovers are done with JavaScript. In fact, you even mentioned the JS event handlers in your post.

Yeah it's pretty simple as I recall. You can load an image with about a line of code. Should work fine

And some people don't like the idea of using images as links (and swapping them with javascript) at all

Clarification; using images as links if the images contain text only
I prefer using CSS and changing color/style/whatever onmouseover
