I think SEO.xpert has explained it pretty well.

Moreover, its very simple. All you have to do is to visit facebook(dot)com/pages/create.php

And, you can use the interactive menu to create your own page.

    My tip:
Setting a Facebook page is the easy part, don't forget to market it and for that, among other things, you have to post high quality content that will interest your visitors.
    Good luck!

The only way to customize a page, besides the native Facebook applications, are Facebook applications running. You can add this applications to your Page via the page tabs, which I will call custom tabs. I explained how this works in a different thread, but here is the explanation again, adapted to your specific question.

You basically got two options to build a custom tab, each with their own advantages and disadvantages:
    • Create your own application and host the content of the tab yourself
    • Use a third party Facebook application

If you design, develop, host and deploy the custom tab yourself, you can create exactly the kind of custom tab that you want. In the process you will learn quite a bit about the web and Facebook, which is an advantage if you are interested in improving your skills and becoming more professional.

There are quite a few tutorials out there that explain you how to do this, although I find none of them extremely great, since they all require basic knowledge of PHP, HTML and CSS. I've tried writing my own tutorial geared towards absolutely beginners, but it's quite a monumental task, since there is a lot to explain.

To make things easier, you can use a third party application on Facebook, like the Static FBML App: https://apps.facebook.com/214946968528708/. Such apps will save you some coding work, although basic knowledge of HTML and CSS is still required and you need to host your images yourself. The biggest disadvantage is that you are dependent from a third party, that can stop service at any time. You also will have to adapt to the feature set of the apps, which is often very basic, so creating a anything very feature rich is out of the question.

Considering this, I think the best way might to create and host the custom tab yourself. I do plenty of such work as part of my day job, so if you got further questions, don't be afraid to ask.

My input is with respect to how you market. Make sure that you don't advertise blatantly to your users, or if you must, it should be less than 30% of the posts. Treat it like a networking event, you wouldn't just walk up to someone and hand them your card, there's an entire process to it and that just wouldn't work. Get to know your most active fans and interact with them, it creates more valuable social dialogue and results in even more loyal fans and referrals. If your activity on your page is interesting, then you will succeed with your social media efforts. Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Brent

Also consider Twitter. Facebook is good to market to consumers, Twitter is great for B2B marketing and establishing relationships/partnerships.

You must have your Facebook account, in your personal data set, to create a page
