Does MySQL really have full transaction support?

The mysql front page claims it now has full transaction support, ACID and all. But I remember MattR saying they will never have full transaction support because it relies on the OS writing to files, so if the OS fails, the database will too.

So did they move away from using the OS, are the lying, or am I missing something?

They are still using os-buffered writes, although I was talking to the InnoDB developer on-line and he said it can be done (removing the buffer). I can't recall how, but certainly with the source one could jump in and try.
