    limiting client requests with mod_rewrite

some &$&% crashed my server last night using a site ripper running in stealth mode (some of those wonderful programs allow you to change the user agent - which kills any inkling of having a valid use for them).

If they don't spoof the user agent I detect them and don't let them view anything... but I couldn't detect this guy so basically it was like a one man DOS attack on my server with him making tons of requests every second - his entire IP block is now banned of course.

I read once that mod_rewrite can limit the number of concurrent or consequetive requests made by a single client but I couldn't find a page discussing that. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Like what? Its not worth the cost of a lawyer, and I'm sure comcast (his ISP) wouldn't give out personal information without a subpeona - which you'd really need a lawyer to do.

I did just send a complaint to comcast's abuse department - incase such behavior is against their AUP.

    Hi,
    I'm not sure these helps:

    No experience about them,
    just "heard" about.
