The New Posts menu link has disappeared in my FF8.
Don't you guys have a development environment to "play" in rather than go fumbling around in the dark in the production version?

I like to think of it as a set of special surprises for me. Every time I visit, I could find everything looking different. Keeps me on my toes.

that would be ok if the changes were positive, but the "New Posts" menu link in my FF8 is still AWOL.
I doubt very much any of my clients would be happy if I started tinkering around on their live websites and making it more cumbersome for their visitors to navigate around on
That's why for commercial websites I always, without exception, make changes to code in a development environment and then upload them when they are working correctly![]()
I just checked the source - the new posts link is commented out. Why? It's the most handy link in the entire forums?![]()

so is the "New Posts" link not coming back?
Like immerse said, it's the most handy link on the site
How else can you get a list of "new posts" all on 1 page like we used to?

Like I said, but clicking "What's New?" They were always one and the same link, so there's no point having it twice. And it's handy having fewer links in the menu. As I understand it, the What's New link is the forum default, and the New Posts link was added by SP just because is used to be there, but there's not reason not to use the one in the main menu.

ooops sorry
I thought you meant that the New Post link was made redundant just like the "What's New" link. I've never clicked the What's New link before thinking it would just describe new features on the website.
Thanks for clearing it up - I'm happy now![]()

I probably just wasn't being clear. But your assumption about what "What's New" might lead to is probably a good reason to change it to "New Posts" anyway, as it is pretty vague.![]()

If they're worried about redundant links, they can remove "My Profile" or "[username]" links. They both go to the same place.

As you have now realised, the huge What's New link does the same thing. Breadcrumbs were wrapping due to a lack of real estate in the header so we removed the redundant link.
Of course we do. This was a deliberate and calculated change that was done in production after testing on staging...
I value your opinions and feedback, but please try and be productive. Coming here and bagging the way that we do things (especially when you're wrong) does nothing but get you off on the wrong foot with us.![]()
Sarah, why do posts I read disappear from the Whats New section? Why doesn't the link just change color like before? Is this a bug?

No it's a global forum setting only @HAWK (and other SPHQ staff) can change. It was set to this setting because the previous setting was too buggy.
This setting will always remember correctly which posts you've read and which you haven't, whereas the previous setting would just make an informed guess.
I agree that it's slightly annoying that the posts disappear from "what's new", but you'll get used to it (at least I did, I can't speak for others of course).

A bug I've just noticed is that the "latest unread post" icon for global stickies (in the forum index) doesn't work as it should, and just drops me at the original post each time.

Yeah, it drives me nuts too, but you do sort of get used to it. Sometimes I want to go back to a thread I just posted in and can't find it (if I can't remember which forum it was in). At least you can go into your My SitePoint area and then click Subscriptions.

I think that BBcode is not working properly... [jumpto] doesn't seem to work at all.
