New forum looks good.
Taking a little getting used to the new layout, colours and font sizes.

I'm waiting for someone to complain like people seem to whenever Facebook changes something :P
Srsly though, looking good, esp. now that the design matches the rest of SPForums seem quicker too. Though load is probably quite low at the moment.
And I just noticed the Auto-save as I'm typing this. I'm sure that's going to come in handy at some point...
var details = {
. . web: "afterlight.com.au",
. . photos: "jvdl.id.au",
. . psa: "usethelatestversion.com"
}

Yeah - how cool is autosave?!

It is nice.
Sorry I'm testing thingsMore testing will come

Oh noes!! the code highlight menu is gone! Now I have to remember BBCode syntax.
Autosave is cool.
Also, the reply/advanced/cancel/submit (and probably all other buttons :P) should be bigger. Bigger buttons = more confidence from users that they are performing the right action.
I know... I'm a hypocrite
Code css:.actionbuttons .group .button { padding: 10px 15px; }
There, I fixed it![]()

I noticed this as well. If the user is online the icon is tiny, too tiny.Oh noes!! the code highlight menu is gone! Now I have to remember BBCode syntax.

You're not alone SgtLegend.

Is this the feedback thread now?
It's great. Take a wee bit of getting used to, but it's much cleaner and seems markedly faster.
I gotta fish for a criticism here...
A-ha; the "flag post" rollover image didn't get onLoaded properly or something...
Off Topic:
****, that autosave is freaking awesome, although I can't say I got much love for the lack of
OT formatting!
Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.
To be honest not a fan, it seems like everything is taking up more space and color contrast I think is making everything harder on the eyes.
The only code I hate more than my own is everyone else's.

Finally another guy with lots of Arrows. I'm not aloneI look at it as moving forward aka progressing fast

Im not a big fan of the new layout as well. Personally I feel the new contrast makes it much harder to read the forum posts, it also seems I need to scroll a lot more now than before which is rather annoying considering the screen resolution. Makes me wonder how much people on a normal resolution need to scroll to read a normal thread.
Another thing I am missing, is the default forum landing page we had previously. I really loved the fact that you had "popular" topics that you guys selected and then shown there, and the left menu with all the forums. It was really annoying to keep scrolling down the list to locate the forums I normally visit far down on the list.
I understand that this is a work in progress, but I do find it rather odd that a forum that is about application/web development does not even seem to have considered usability aspects of the new layout. Hopefully as we move on, things will be updated and changed. In addition to consider usability for the normal visitor, I would also strongly recommend that you review for usability for disabled users as that is a complete mess at the moment.
Be be 100% honest I don't think the layout is as efficient or functional as it was before. I have to scroll way more now to get to the forum I want, when before the tree menu on the left was a quick couple of clicks at most to get where I want.
It's good that the theme matches the rest of the site, but the size and font plus fixed column layout make everything seem more squashed, in my opinion.
I could see how this layout would be more functional for different types of user agents, but as a standard layout not as good as before.
Also, there seems to be some weird word-wrap thing going on with this text box, and where are highlighted discussions? That was a great feature, I hope it makes it back, or maybe I just missed it in this layout.
Colour scheme is nice.

Both the "Featured Posts" and left-side menu that you refer to were plugins that don't work in vBulletin 4 so need to be rewritten. Due to the urgent nature of the upgrade we decided to go ahead without them. We'll definitely do something about the menu but I'm still thinking on the featured posts.

I was kinda counting on Featured to bring stuff from sections most don't visit up to the general population's attention.

I don't want to replicate this post, but I feel totally the same... I liked the old layout (and usability) much more for the same reasons... I agree that we always have to improve things, but I also think we should not change things that DO WORK. Hope I'll get used to the new layout a.s.a.p. and that some usability-improvements are also on their way.![]()

You have to remember that we haven't deliberately redesigned anything here (other than the style). This is pretty much out of the box vB 4 (with a couple of plugins). It is definitely a work in progress and I'll be asking for your feedback shortly - we just need to finish optimising and get things running properly first.

I'm liking it overall, only things I really dislike is the fact that it's not full-width and the small user profiles next to posts (they seem like they haven't been touched at all).
But I'm sure you'll make it prettier since you say it's a WIP![]()
