CSS : image has space around it in DIV

I am trying to get the div to hug the image, it seems that the vertical side of the DIV do, but the horizontial edges don't. I have tried different things. and I can't seem to get rid of the white space. My only other option is to use position and set everything static on the page, I really don't want to do that .. I just want the little white spaces gone. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hmmmm, am not in a position to test this at the moment, but maybe try setting "padding:0px" in the "maindiv" class?

If it does not work, I'll have a closer look at home tonight

This is a common "gotcha" for those who are just starting to convert to XHTML.

Read this for an explanation of what's happening.
