    Installation might be different depending on OS. Have you tried looking something up on MySQL.com? Or you could use something like PHP-Triad to do all the complicated stuff for you.

    I am not familiar with installing MySQL on XP, but I would search for a file called "my.cnf" or some other derivation.

    Same book, same OS, same problem. I can find four different .cnf-files from d:\mysql -directory (my-huge.cnf, my-large.cnf, my-medium.cnf, my-small.cnf). No idea what is the difference between those or which one to edit.

    Save the following (with the paths changed) as my.ini in your Windows directory:

    [mysqld]
    basedir=c:/apache/mysql/
    datadir=c:/apache/mysql/data

    skip-innodb

    I renamed my-huge.cnf to my.ini and copied it to my windows directory. Is there a difference which file you rename ?
