This is perhaps a bit off-topic, but who on Earth came up with the term "Panda Update" and when was this a "2.2 update"? What happened to 2.1? What happened to 1.0?

If I remember correctly, Google made up "Panda" in a hurry when they saw everybody was going to call it the "Farmer" update. I guess they thought it made it sound better.

This may be in view of damage control for the sites worst hit by the PANDA update

It is called Panda because the Google engineer mainly responsible for it is called Panda.

I have no qualms in saying that I love this man. He's a software engineer AND he's killed off a load of SEO spammers.

I would have thought that calling it "panda" would be worse. Makes you wonder just who they are trying to "panda" (pander) to in making the changes.

But I would like to know, what about the e-commerce shopping websites like eBay or Amazon, which have their cTLD versions but same look and content(except few words and the currency symbol)?

Why Google changes its algorithms so quickly?I have heard that Google panda2.2 affect only scrapper sites and duplicate content. Is it true?Or it affects something else also.

Perhaps one reason Google changed it was because there were some legitimate sites that got nailed by Panda, but should not have. Some of the tweaks in 2.2 may have been to correct some things that incorrectly penalized the wrong sites.

    Thanks for the links.

From the report, I picked up this with interest:
'Google has this to say: "We'll continue to iterate on returning high-quality sites to Google users as part of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year."'

This means more than 1 algorithm change a day on average!
