creating a mysql backup regime..

I have a couple of questions regarding setting up a backup regime for a local mysql database running on Win2K Server.

1. What mysqldump switches should I use for an optimum (complete) database backup?
2. Seen as I can't trigger a backup from mysql itself, what the the most reliable way people have found to run a scheduled backup on a 2K Server?

2) Create a batch file with your dump command in it and run it whenever you want using Task Scheduler

We're on the same wavelength then, 'cos that's exactly then method I've just been testing.

If you need to use PHP (say to create a unique file name) you can create a PHP script and set Task Scheduler to run a web browser and use the appropriate switch to get the browser to run your PHP file

Nah, it's going to get backed-up to tape every night along with all the script files half an hour after the mysqldump takes place, so I can use the same filename.
