Help. How do you position text in tables using CSS?

Auitooooo, which is Italian for help, by the way. How can I position text precisely in tables, when I'm using CSS? As soon as I preview the page in a browser, i see a whole load of space below the text. I've tried to find the right CSS selector, but I cannot get it right. This is the part of the stylesheet that is causing me problems:

H3 {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 140%;
color: Black;
background: transparent;
font-weight: bold;
line-height: 100%;
position: static;
}

Any ideas?
