Going to make this more noticeable on the home page, I have just under the button, "Problems with the cams" section. Also I have it on every page "problem with the cams go back home"

But I am going to stick it under the button, thanks buzzer!

The idea is good in principle.

The site layout is a bit chunky looking. Needs some work.

For me a lot of the webcams showed very little (being at night).

If you can you may want to add some intelligence to it so that it is more likely to choose a camera that is located in a place where it is daytime, or evening - unless the particular location has something interesting that happens at 4am local time of course.

It should also show cameras at 4am etc, cos you never know your luck. It should just show them less often.

    Interesting concept.

Buttons on the home and camera pages what about making the buttons look more like a button (which someone else has mentioned) with a larger font, a more pronounced roll-over effect (currently, theres just a slight color shift), and add a cursor: pointer to the CSS.

Image size the camera images that I looked at were all 640 by 480 pixels wide and high, so why stretch the image in the browser to 1024 by 355, which distorts the view? Could you keep the image at its original aspect ratio? One possibility would be to resize the images to 480 by 360 (to maintain the aspect ratio), align the image on the left size of the layout, and then use the space freed up on the right size for advertising (maybe get started with Google ads now).

Home Link Im not sure if its needed, but having some sort of link back to the home page might be nice, in for nothing else for bookmarking the site (maybe put a small version of the moon and boy logo in the upper left corner).

Hmmmm some great points! I will consider all of these.. All I did was fill up the blue part of my layout as best I could I didnt take into consideration the size of the camera's, I personally think they look better. All the other camera's are to small and you have to struggle to see what is going on in them. This way they have a nice big and clear(on some of them) image.

I have a home link at the bottom of the page not very noticeable, I might put this in once I have a proper logo.

In regards the button. I might look at redesigning this later. For now it serves its purpose.

Thanks very much though for the great reply!

Looks like an interesting idea. How about instead of/as well as having a chat box, integrate it with facebook comments? This should drive more traffic to your site and add more content for people to chat about.

I think it will be tough to monetize this site, then again if people are waiting around for something to happen on the cam they may be more likely to click on the ads.

/snip Check out that link.. its as it says!! I think it will actually be easier to monetize I can place CPA ads near the location of the cam as well as unrelated ads for people that are bored!

I like it. I had a similar idea about 4 years ago... except the cams were supposed to point outside. and broadcasting at all times, so people could see what was going on in every major city around the world. The idea was if you had a view, post a camera, so people could see the view. The concept changed over the years... working on something new now. May post it soon.

It looks great! Just one nitpick...I would left align the elements in the right column (headings, paragraphs). The second paragraph is indented further to the right, for instance. Also, there seems to be more space between the second heading and the copy than there is between the first heading and paragraph. Love the Twitter graphic! It really catches your eye.

It is a creative site concept and mostly clean design. I would skip or suppress or at least mute the color of the red stats tab which keeps popping up on the right, as it is distracting.

You could try pay cam upsells to monetize the site i.e. psychic, advice, adult, that sort of pay-per-minute service.

Hi rather like the concept, but i think you need to categorize the cameras, instead of them just been random, also sound would be a good idea too. When i was looking there were about 3 cameras that did not seem to be working, also some more interesting places are needed but i suppose its still work in progress, but think in time will be cool.

    Thanks

Yes the site has only been live now nearly 3 months. Rather than categorizing it I have a better idea, just wait and see. Glad to see you enjoy the site.

Interesting idea. I can see how people could spend quite a bit of time here. I would agree with fakefinders that it would be nice to be able to narrow the randomness in some way whether geographically or type.

I agree, I will be adding a scenic route button. I am going to maybe offer several options, but they will be all random i.e Animal Cams, Scenic etc

Yes this could make some $$. When you get it done use several ad servers,
    adsense, linkshare.
Look at another similar interest fun site that is popular FACEinHOLE.com - Who do you want to be today? as an example. It is bright not dark and black like a porn site. Yours is dark like an illegal software site.
You are not a good web designer nor am I. You have a good idea so let go of any personal attachments to the web design. Take a site the looks mainstream like the example. Use the same font, size spacing and everything and don't deviate from it. No need to re-invent the wheel on web design when there are many of great ones to borrow inspiration (but never actual content or graphics) from.
Think of catchier name. It is like a wormhole that is stepping in and out of places all over world in an instant.
Look for another domain like WormHole.net is available. Wormhole.com is defunked and you may be able to get that later.
The camera may be to big. It is choppy and I have a fast Internet connections. Don't make people have to sign up at first. If you need to later use some sort of open ID login service like janrain. They are free to get started with.
Make sure the cam feeds are legal and allow you to use them.
You need a submit cam feed suggestion box also so users can suggest ones you may not know of.

Thanks for your feedback some great suggestions there.
However I disagree completly with a few of your points a better domain name? frankly I don't think I could of got a better one if i tried. Watch This Cam it is what it says it is. Its not to long simple etc.

The link you posted is all over the place there is images everywhere, didn't know what it was for about 5mins.

My site has bright colours, it might look basic but that is the look I am going for. You don't need a complicated design for what I am doing it only confuses people.

I don't meen to be critiscising you comments Thank you I will take it on board but clearly we have compltly different outlooks.

just been browsing your site, I must say my first impressions are good, clean design functional etc...the cam page is an interesting idea, I could see it catching on and users could spend alot of time browsing.
I agree with a previous comment about categories and a way to search, other than that its all good.

also, just curious what you did to attract so many visitors so quickly??

Thanks it still needs a good bit of work I just lack the time. Well mainly from self promoting It was my first internet venture, so I was quite keen to promote it. I have created 479 manual backlinks through forum's etc that gives you an idea.
Also a lot has to do with the domain name. A lot of people might argue and say that its not very good but I would disagree. Its basic to the point.

Watch This Cam. So telling someone oh have you seen Watch This Cam? etc.

I am not going to make categories this will just put me in the same boat as the other major sites.

I will however say add different random options. "Take the scenic route" etc

    Thanks for your feedback though

I like the idea of the site, the design is nice and i ahve to say the very first cam was somewhere I have been to many times, kinda freaked me out. The site was kinda slow, and some of the cams wouldn't load and it would cause the comments to act all weird. Using latest version of firefox btw.

    Thumbs up

interesting idea and your right it is addictive!!! They layout is nice and clean, but the only concern I have is the main graphic in the header. A rainbow and a kid next to a tree doesn't have much to do with cameras or chatting with the world. Try to incorporate an image that shows what your site is about.
Also try making a custom background for your buttons.
Overall this is a great site, so much potential, I cant wait to see how it progresses in a few years.

This is impressive! I'm wondering if you can share how you did it. I am in a similar boat, just launched a "one-man" project - <snip/> and I'm trying to figure out how to generate interest and visits.

But that's another topic... I know...

    Initial observations about YOUR site:

    - The logo has a speech bubble over "cam"... why not a video icon since there's no speech going on? Maybe you're referring to the discussion feature.
    - Click here to start button should be a graphic, and the biggest, flashiest thing on the page. It should say something like "click here to watch a random cam" instead of "click here to start"
    - Once I'm actually in the site, I love it. It's really simple and easy to use. zero thought required
    - I keep going back to my thoughts on the home page though... I think you could do better there. The person by the tree with the rainbow just isn't saying anything about what you site is about.

Overall... very cool concept. Nice work!

I could waste lots of time on this site.

Being able to select by region would be nice. Also clicking a like button so you could identify the most popular ones. You could also identify popularity by tracking the amount of time people look at each feed.

Some type of preloading would improve performance. They take a while to get started.

Wow thanks for that, Good idea basing it on the particular likes. I am going to do this over the next few weeks. Top 10 "liked" cams or something.

Pre loading won't be possible as the camera's are random. However I know some can be slow, its about 50/50 might get rid of the ones that are taking ages to load up.

    Glad you enjoy the site

Thanks some great feedback there. Well I posted in quite a lot of forum's and got some great feedback from people like you. .

You will notice on the site that I have changed the homepage "Click here to start" to an actual live cam Might do this for the rest of the buttons but it brings with it a whole host of problems.

Thanks the site does need some modifications and a bit of work, it should get more interesting as I add stuff to it and get quite a good following of people.

The rainbow I actual removed it and replaced it with an image but it just didn't look very good. I might look to changing it but for the moment I am going to leave it as I think people might recognize it as a "brand" well something like it.

Anyways thanks again for the feedback will take it all on board.
