    NE 4.x not reading external css

    I'm trying to figure out why NE 4.x isn't reading my external CSS file. No, I'm not using an @import statement or anything that is known to "hide" external files from that browser. I've gone over my file with Topstyle Pro even and there doesn't appear to be anything in it that would cause NE 4.x to simply not read it at all. The code looks just like this:

    <link href="/ie5.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

    And it's all CSS 1 stuff inside. Anyone know what might cause this problem? It's annoying because even though NE 4.x formats the page correctly (amazing these days) all the text is black instead of white, and none of the links are formatted correctly. In other words, it's a bit hard to read my site since I have a dark blue background

    Not a W3C Standard Complient Browser...

    I think this has to do with: (Browser dont support xHTML)
    <link href="/ie5.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    I dont think NE 4.x supports that, Have you tried this:

    Code:
    <link href="/ie5.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" >
    Offcourse this would work with IE5 because it has support for XML and XHTML.

    Netscape 4.X should load it fine with the XHTML nomenclature. Most likely the problem is caused by an error in the CSS file itself or a tag that it doesn't recognize in the file. What does the actual file look like? Can you paste it in here for review?

    Well the main problem seems to be where you define the background-color to NONE. This isn't valid. It should be TRANSPARENT.

    I also got a lot of errors when running it through a style checker. Over 700 lines worth to be exact (though that is broken down by browser and version). Here are the warnings and errors specific to Netscape 4.XX...

    Thanks! I will change to transparent.

    As for the rest, that appears to be Netscape-specific. I suppose it's time to create a style sheet just for it. I could just use an @import statement for the "regular" one and have a Netscape 4 sheet load right before it? That should work, right?

    Exclamation invalid code not read by N4

    Not a W3C Standard Complient Browser
    I don't understand this criticism - as Wayne points out, TRANSPARENT is not valid in this context - so which browser is "compliant"? - the one that enforces W3C standards or the one that doesn't? - which browser is really responsible for the problem you had here?
