Can I Have Spaces in Directory Names?

For some reason I've never read anything about this. Par example, what's gonna happen if I have a directory named:

    www.sitepoint.com/html/some stuff/index.htm

    ...as opposed to:

    www.sitepoint.com/html/some_stuff/index.htm

In the past I had this natural habit of using underscores and spaces but I just realized I don't really know why.

Some browsers (I know IE6 does) will automatically translate the space into %20 (which is the character code for it) but Its best to stick with underscores or nospacing at all.

The semi-older versions of Netscape do not.
