    I think I fell off the search engines

    Traffic this week has basically been cut in half ... and after some investigation ... I think I have pretty much fallen off the google rankings.

    Think it's temporary? The site doesn't fit the "SPAM" profile ... and I resubmitted round the board ONCE 3 months after my first submission ...

    *sigh*

    do you have regularly updated content? i'm no SEO expert but i think google (and others like msn, alltheweb) gives preference to sites that have daily or weekly content. if you stop updating, you'll drop like an E-fly.

    I've noticed that when i'm making changes like adding sections to a site my google rank temporarily rises a bit then falls again 2-3 months later.

    its probably not temporary. rankings don't magically increase if you don't keep on top of them. do a google search on your domain name to see if you're there at all.

    The only thing frequently updated content will get you is frequent spider visits. It won't give you a higher rank.

    Which site are you talking about? What keywords did you used to be listed well under?

    aspen ...

    If you searched for all kinds of stuff I was on the first page ... (for Outcrier.com)

    ClassicCloseouts
    Newegg
    Z-Buy
    accessmicro

    online deal hunting
    victoria's secret coupons
    reviews of avon.com

    etc etc etc ... I had over 100+ new visitors daily based solely on search engines ... that has been my most powerful traffic asset to date ...

    Again, I didn't spam at all ... I just resubmitted the site on 7/12, 3-4 months after the initial submission ...

    You recently changed your site some didn't you?

    See this:

    http://www.outcrier.com/v_list.php?s...875c8692d46549

    That is the URL for your page with Victoria's secret on it.

    Search Engines index things by unique URL. If you constantly change the URL by putting a sessionID in it you won't get indexed/listed.

    Putting a session id in your urls is SE suicide. You need to put it in a cookie, and if they don't support cookies, don't put it anywhere.

    aspen ... you make a decent point ... not sure how to go around it though ...

    When the recent PHP fix came out ... the PHPSESSID started popping up when people first come into the site ...

    I'm not sure if spiders get that too or what ... any ideas how to get around it?

    Someone on IRC got me on the right track ... I found the session.use_trans_sid ... and set it in my code ... before session_start() ...

    PHP Code:
    ini_set("session.use_trans_sid"0);
    session_start();
    .
    .

    Thanks aspen!

    I'm probably going to resubmit to the engines tonight ... unless you think it's a bad idea since I did it on 7/12 ... I need to get that killer placement back!

    Submitting now won't make much of a difference... Google's next crawl is imminent and so you should be indexed then - but it'll be another 3-4 weeks before information from that crawl is published.
