    homepage problem

    Hi,

question, how does spiders react to a site, which has a single flash movie inside, which checks if flash is installed on the machine, if yes, it redirects to the proper site, if not a meta refresh will divert to a site, where people will be asked to download the software.

now the question, I have very good positions with this domain and don´t want to loose it.

Any ideas, if the search engines will penalise such a page or there will be no difference, if I keep the same keywords and title in the file?

Would be nice to hear your opinion and experience.

    Its a bad idea.

Instead of redirecting, load the normal site and then detect if flash exists, if it does exist popup a window that contains the flash site.

This way browsers with support for flash or javascript (spiders) will see your normal site without any problem.

the problem is, the site is 100% flash, so what shall I show on the "normal" site?

just some basic information with a nice graphic?

didn´t really want to work with popups, as this makes people quite nervous.

is it really that bad to redirect? just from index.html to index2.html, as still all links will point to the same domain and I can keep the same Title Tags and put some keywords into the homepage to let the spider know, whats the site about.

yes its bad to redirect, its also bad to have a 100% flash site without a text equivalent - if you do that you shouldn't worry about the redirect, 0 times anything is still 0.

All flash sites usually don't rank that well, there's little you can do about that. Have a text equalivalent. This is one instant where I would recommend a gateway/intro page.

Flash sites can rank well in search engines.

Using xeofreestyle.com as an example of a all Flash site - they rank 3rd on Google for the term freestyle design

You could use Javascript to write a Flash or non Flash / non JS supported version on your home page without the need to redirect.

    Here's the code

Or, for a quick fix, put the Flash in a 100% frameset and optimise the <noframes>.

I have a 100% Flash site as well, but if I really cared about the SE's I would never have gone 100% Flash. If you really want that SE placement, I would do a HTML version. Or have some very good websites link to you
