    Question IIS Stopped working?!

    Hi

MY IIS 5.1 (on XP) has been working fine for ages. However, a few months ago, it stopped starting automatically and each time I rebooted, I had to start it manually. Anyway, it still worked fine.

Today, I tried starting it and I got the following error message:

    "Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred."

    What exactly does that mean?!

I have tried restarting the system and it still says the same thing. Now, however, it has a red 'error' icon next to the 'Local Host (Stopped)' part.

(I only use it on the localhost for some basic PHP developmennt).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Mak.

    Couple things-
    1) Check the event viewer, it should be under admin tools. Generally any error or system problems will write a log entry here which can be very helpful for tracking down problems.

    2) Also check your 'Services', also under admin tools. There should be settings their for IIS such as how it starts up and what to do if their is an error.

    Question

    Hi

I had a look in the Event Viewer under System messages and I can see the following error under the source of 'W3SVC':

    ----
The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code.
For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

    ----

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I believe 'W3SVC' has something to do with logging/stats. You shouldn't need that on if it's a local development machine.
