    Why does Google like me?

My website plasmapages.com has a PR of 5. I'm not complaining, but why? It's all Flash and has like only 6 backward links. I think that's too high.

My jpma.com website has like 58 backward links and it too has a PR of 5? go figure?

    strange this Google is...

    Hi,

A link from Dmoz got you that page rank of 5/10. Not all links are born equal.

There is also another site linking to you with a pagerank of 5/10, which helps.

    Take care.

I don't think dmoz is more heavily weighted, but a pagerank of 5 linking to you will help. Getting from 5 to7 is much harder. I came in with a pagerank of 4 without dmoz and got to 5 next month with dmoz and then dmoz dropped me and I stayed at five. Now I;m at six, moving on seven but I have key link trades with many sites with PR of 6 or higher.

Don't get too happy, my friend. Your page has a high rank because brinkster has a high rank. Your real pagerank is not five and google search engine will not treat your page as if had a pagerank of five.

PageRank (those numerical values given by the toolbar) is arbitrary, it is also impossible for Google to "go soft."

There is only so much PageRank on the Internet, its a static amount. Think of it like matter. It cannot be created, nor destroyed.

The amount of PageRank available has not changed, the total value of all the sites on the Internet has not changed. All that has changed is your share of it.

The only way for you to go up, is for someone else to go down.

My PageRank was at 6 for a long time and now it's at 7. Who links to you is extremely important, getting in Yahoo! and DMOZ are big steps.

(Didnt I say, no patronising explanations? sheez)

Not quite true Archbob, that IS the pagerank of the page mentioned,it has nothing to do with the brinkster home page, the only time you may get apparent pagerank is prior to google indexing a page and this page has been indexed many times, prior to the current update it had a 4 pagerank,so it stands as an estimated pagerank 5 , you can see it has been indexed from the cache.

The reason it has such a high ranking from one link, is my anti-spam page (which links to it) has several heavy weights linking to it.

    Thumbs up Hi,

I realize that it's a little off subject, but you've got an amazing site (www.plasmapages.com)

Even the sound is nice and clear.

    Good work!

Obviously, not all backward links are equal, but can we assume that a page with a PR of 5 linking to you is just as valuable as the next page with a PR of 5 linking to you? In other words, are all 5ís the same?? (Assuming that the anchor tags are the same)

Also, how many PRís of 2 will equal a 5?? If I have 8 pages with 2ís linking to me, is that better than 1 page with a 5??

I just canít figure out why my plasmapages site and my jpma site are both 5ís when jpma has 58 backward links? Their both in DMOZ.

Oh, and thank you SheriffG.Guirguis for the kind words. Thatís nice

No, not all 5's are equal.

I'd say 1 5 is better than 4 2's, but it also depends on the number of links on the page.

All we know for sure is that the numbers like "5" are just approximate values or represenations of your score - they themselves are arbitrary. We also know that the amount needed to attain each rank is exponential.

    almost like poker

    1 5 beats 4 2's
    1 6 beats 3 5's
    3 5's and 2 2's is a full house.
