Hello I am opening a online store selling merchandise, everything is in place except my website. I have built a simple Frontpage site before, but it was not appealing. I am seriously thinking of having someone build it but I have questions. If someone else builds it will I have to be dependant on them for the life of the site, or can I change prices and add new items. Im not interested in Flash, and actually like the Yahoo store fronts like this one www.suprastore.com. I know thats simple but I like it, or something along those lines.
If you're not confident in your design skills, then by all means, get someone else to do it! Hire someone who's competent, now, and you won't be forced to later. It's sometimes stunning how little weight we tend to give to designs--I mean I wouldn't let someone with my programming skills to code something actually important. ;-)
As for you concern about updates, any developer worth the pay you're going to give them will set up an online "content management system" (CMS) so you can make those changes yourself. Besides no one gets into Web design to change <img> tags or replace all occurrences of "Widget 1000" with "Widget 2000". CMSs usually have a database backend, so your server has to have the same type of database and scripting your developer uses.
If you're still gonna' do the site yourself, we've got you covered. Otherwise, if you're going to spring for a designer/developer, look no further than our very own Trading Post. Yes, we have just about everything you could possibly want, here. :-D
