I did something mildly foolish a few months back when I was newer to much of this. I bought a domain name and, needing a place to park it, I set it up on a low-cost web host. I thought I would be building the site shortly, but it keeps getting put off by other projects (and other sites!). I tried to shift it a while back to domainsarefree.com to save me the hosting fee, but they informed me they would only park newly registered domains. Does anyone know a service that will park domains that are temporarily out of use? It seems something like this must exist, but I've never seen it. Thanks!

95% of the places that i know park only new domains. you always transfer your account to http://www.hypermart.net for free hosting till you get the site finished or you've got the $$ to spend on it...

Thanks for the feedback. I had considered both http://www.hypermart.net and http://www.virtualave.net for free domain hosting, but unfortunately both of them are limited to business sites (at least according to their terms), and I really can't bend the site into a business venture at this point. If anyone knows of any free virtual domain hosts that allow personal sites (I could just throw up some artwork on it for now), I would be open to trying that.

Virtualave has loads of sites with (almost) no content. One more shouldn't matter ...

Why don't you use Freeservers.com?. It's a free hosting company that gives you an IP & DNS address four your domain. You can customize a page saying "This site is under construction, come back soon..." and upload it to your site.

I would like to thank everyone, particularly bgotty, for the feedback. I went with domainvalet.com, as they were closest to what I was looking for. In fact, they are better, as I have the option to make a free web site some time in the future on their server, should I ever find the time to do so! So far, everything seems to have gone pretty smoothly.
