What are the advantages of using ASP?

What I like about ASP is being able to insert an ASP page into a mature website. Maybe I don't have a complete understand of ASP.NET but its my impression that ASP.NET treats all of the web pages as an entire application. I was trying to use MS Visual Studio so may be it's a issue with that software.
