Where would you send free copies of a programming book for promotional purposes?

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering which reviewing companies/websites are good to send a programming book for promotional purposes?

I think Sitepoint may be a good site to send a copy of my book (when it's in printing -- not there yet) so someone could write a review on it... Is Sitepoint good for that?

I need to compile a list of places to send my programming book, and I'm not sure which websites/companies would be good for reviewing the book.

    Thanks,

    GregC

    Hi,

I think you would be better off targetting magazines that have websites.

for example netmag.co.uk is a magazine for beginners in the webbuilding arena, they reach about 40,000 subscribers.

If you could get a review by them it would help you out a lot, maybe you could give 10 of your books away as prizes, i did that and it got me about 8 leads and i only gve away 5 memberships.

    Worth a try.

    Greg, try user groups!

I'm a member of a 900-member user group in Tucson, Arizona, USA.

The Tucson Computer Society publishes a monthly journal that includes book reviews. (I'm one of the reviewers, although I'm not the one who handles programming books.)

Programming book reviews are a popular feature, since we have some real hardcore code warriors among the membership.

    Hey thanks for the responses...

Magazines, websites, whatever. I'll be glad to have my publisher send books to any place that will review the book. (Hopefully I'll get positive reviews, too! )

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks--

    GregC
