    a lot of it will depend on what kind of website you own

    It's a sports website.

    Someone wants to know the price to put a banner ad up.

    Depends;

    if you customers spend a lot of money online you could charge 5/8$ CPM

    if they dont you might be lucky to get $1 / $1.50

    The only way is to do a survey and then make the averages and demographics available to your advertisers (if it was advantagous to you

    Once he puts the ad up, how can I tell how many hits he got from my site?

    We can give you advice, but it is against policies to discuss pricing here as it can be considered price fixing under U.S. laws. Just FYI.

    These are the important stats out of what you posted, what appears to be from Webalizer or something:

    Total Pages 46161
    Total Visits 12202

    Those don't average out to be a whole lot per month so don't expect to be making a killing off those unless you have a very targeted audience and/or your site is one-of-a-kind. I would definitely do some more promotion and search engine optimization and charge flat monthly rates at first. Build your site up and then begin to charge CPM when you have more sizeable traffic.

    A flat monthly fee is what I was asking.

    But thanks for setting me straight on how to approach it.
