There is no benefit to having a high post count if your posts are not meaningful and helpful. Everyone could have 10,000 posts that say "Yeah that's right". We would rather have a bunch of users with an average of 200 posts each with good detailed information so everyone can learn.
I think the others are just saying some people go way overboard to get a high post count... They post little ONE or TWO word phrases in order to get a post... So that shouldn't really count. I don't think it's really a big deal with the post counts, but some people think it is...
I think Chris places a *bit* too much value on the post count.
Seriously though, I think that valuable posts USUALLY come from people that have high post counts, chris included. Most of the time, people with post counts over 1000 95% of those posts have been useful, because these are people who are actually devoted to the community.
