Ok I have just had an idea for a website, inspired by a thread on another forum, http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003085.html

The thread is basically a war between different people using gifs as their weapons. Each person made a character and fought the other characters (go to the thread to see what I am talking about). It's very funny and entertaining.

I think that this would be a great idea for a site. I recently bought the domain bombem.com (Bomb 'Em not Bom Bem) and planned to use it for a humour related site. I think it would be a pretty good domain for the site I am talking about (i could get a better one but I have this one so I'll use it).

If I make the site it will run on a database. People create an account and enter competitions/leagues/etc. Each fight (between 2 people) would consist of, say, 10 gifs per person. Turns would be taken to submit moves. After each of the fighters have used their gifs visitors vote on the winner.

There could be different types of leagues, i.e. one for flash animators, one for gif animators etc.

I think this could be a popular site as it is very funny to watch.

Can anyone tell me what they think of the idea? By the way I know I am taking a risk telling everyone about the idea because some may copy it, I hope no one does, I am trusting everyone not to.

    Anyway thanks for any feedback.

Thanks for the input Jon. Yea I think it could be interesting (which is why I think I will do the site ).

By the way the link to the thread that inspired me seems to have been down for the past 24 hours. It's a great pity as the forums are very good and that particular thread is very funny and has about 60 posts.

Hopefully the site will be back up soon.

From the way you described it it sounds like a battle of graphic artists. Awesome! I think it would be cool. I hope the link you refered to will be back up soon so I can see what you're talking about...

Yea Justin, basically that's what it is. The animated gifs in the thread are pretty crude, some are better than others, but it looks like great fun. You have to react to the move that the last guy made and take it in turns.

In the above thread about the battle started out with just a guy showing everyone a humorous gif he made then some other guy did a gif where he pushed the character in the first gif. The thread grew from there and about 8 people eventually joined in.

People were shooting cannons at each other and other violent (in a light hearted way) actions.

I hope the site comes back online soon as well, the forums are a pretty good hang out for digital artists.

(PS: This was post number 101 for me )

    Jumpthru,
The visitors of the site vote for the winner of each fight. A simple poll would be set up. The idea is still very much in the planning stage so it will be quite a while before I get a beta version of the site up and running.

Just letting you know that the link in the first post of this thread is working now. The site was down for about 48 hours.

Make sure you check it out as it explains what my idea is all about better than I can say in words.

How ironic, the second this site gets in the spotlight it goes down :P

    d3v,
it's working fine for me, maybe you should check again? It might have been down for a minute or two when you were trying to access it. I can access the site right now.

It works for me - glad it did! That site would be so awesome if you developed it.

    Go for it!
