I have found that there isn't really one that's the best. Ultraedit is my choice. DreamWeaver MX isn't too shabby either.

Another vote for EditPlus2 from me. Very competant syntex highlighting, and a damn site cheaper than any of the Macromedia products.

Dreamweaver MX for me, nice syntax highlighting and support for PHP. Granted that is a bit pricey so if your funds are lacking try Ultraedit or NoteTab Light.

And please don't make me start on the endless argument of "use notepad cause its l33t!!@" statement

    I use UltraEdit32. At $35 it's quite a deal for a programmer on a budget!

    Thumbs up

I Personally use Dev-C++ for php programing it organizes all my files into one single project file (the program was made for c++ but as long as you don't try to compile the phph you should be fine) hope that helps - drop me an email sometime at Draconis3k@hotmail.com

I've tried many but keep coming back to HomeSite 4.5.1

HS 4.5.1 is pre-Macromedia, and therefore retains a very nice design-mode for quick prototyping of html, layout, tables etc...these features are removed in HS 5.0 in favor of the Dreamweaver add-in.

And, with 3rd party PHP add-ins, code and function insight is available.

Of the others I like EditPlus2 and UltraEdit.

    hotdog

covers everything from php, html, css, asp and loads more than I haven't even used, pretty cheap too and easy to use and track whole web sites. all coloured coding etc

Basically I haven't even looked at anything else so although I think this is the best I can't guarantee it

Well, I use wordpad most of the time, it's just easier for me to see the test, IMO.

The dark text, rather than text all over the place, highlighted text just doesn't select too well..

And changing higlighted text OFF is a pain, becuase I use it every now and then..

So I code with wordpad, but if I need a line number, I'll pop up editplus2

    Thanks,
    ~someonewhois
