Wink Art Porfoilo, need displaying suggestions.

I'm building a page to act as an art porfoilo. I'm going to have prints for sale. As well as an area that people can comission me to draw, and/or paint a custom piece for them.

    Here's my question.

Are you more likely to look at an indivdual piece of art, if the page that lists the art has thumbnails, kinda like this:

    http://yerf.com/samples/1.htm

Or one that just has the name and discription, like this:

    http://fern.junglestudio.com/sketch6.html

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks,
    ~Crys

Defiantly, thumbnails with descriptions. All those text link so close together are pretty overwhelming. :-)

    Definetly want thumbnails.

I do mostly work for artists as well. Have a look at

    and

If you see anything you like, use the idea and even better see anything you don't like, let me know:-)

Second thought, better not say anything in the forums, otherwise this thread'll be closed for being a review (which should be in the review forum ;-). They're pretty strict on that, as well as advertising.

Let's try to keep this to, "thumbnails or not and why," so Crystal(?) can get the answer she's looking for. :-)

    Wink

    Ian (1st post), and smcausland:

Thanks for your input, I was generally thinking in that direction. Most sites have some kind of thumbnails, the better(non fandom) ones, anyway.

    Crystal is correct >^-~<

    Crys,

I like the thumbnails too - especially since you are showing more than one artist.(?) It looks like it might be for commercial purposes too. Speaking as an Art Director, I want to see it before I read about it.

As an artist, I did mine as a gallery page with links showing the reference photo with finished portrait. Mainly because I didn't know how to do the thumbnails, but I think it works. I also just linked to a photo page in iCom for my full portfolio.

I like the look of your site.

All the pictures are mine...>^-^;< I did an Art trade with the Owners of the . My guest art section isn't up yet.

The thumbnails are easy. Just take your picture's widest side (make sure that the "Keep aspect" feature is on), and resize it to 127 pixils. Anything smaller doesn't give you a good Idea of what you're looking at, and anything much bigger and it's not a thumbnail. I got the idea for the size from http://yerf.com

I like the reference photo idea.

I'm trying to sell "custom" art. They tell me what they want, and I draw, or paint it for them.

I'm glad you like it >^-^<.
