Hi, I'm not 100% sure that this is the correct forum for this post, but here goes:
Is there such a thing as flash chat? I know that normally chat is provided via CGI or JAVA, but CGI is too memory intensive, and IE does not support java anymore.
What I really want is one of two things, either some type of flash chat, or a small download for IE that will enable JAVA.
I'm sure source code will be kicking around somewhere. As for downloading Java for Windows (and thus IE) you can get it from Sun or the M$ site, but it isn't small unfortunately -- it's about 10Mb (or the Sun installer is anyway).
I've been using that flash chat for a year or so now. Its quite good although major set back is that the user has to click the quit button or else the name will stay logged in.
You should look into getting a host with ASP if you really need a chat
It does time people out after a time, sbdi. (I only know this cos someone got timed out while I was there!)
The same thing would be more than possible with PHP. Have a look at this. A PHP3/Flash 4 solution. (The second link when banging 'flash PHP chat' into Google.) I have no idea what it's like as I have never even looked at it, but it has a decent rating.
