Can a standard install of MySQL store both english AND japanese characters?

Can a standard install of MySQL store both english AND japanese characters?

Is this known to cause problems?

Data would be accessed/inserted/edited via a PHP interface.

    Any help appreciated!

I believe as long as you have both Western and Japanese character support compiled in you should have no problems using both simultaneously.

My standard windows binary contains the character sets:

    latin1 big5 czech euc_kr gb2312 gbk sjis tis620 ujis dec8 dos german1 hp8 koi8_ru latin2 swe7 usa7 cp1251 danish hebrew win1251 estonia hungarian koi8_ukr win1251ukr greek win1250 croat cp1257 latin5

I dont know the specifics of the Japanese language, but your problems are more likely to be on the PHP end of things (I heard PHP had poor support for large character sets), although I dont have any experiences with any other languages apart from those with a western character set, so unfortuanately I can't elaborate more there.
