    sql newbie

    Hi guys, I am going through Kevin Yanks tutorial after giving up on it some time ago and its coming to me a lot easier. I have completed the intro to sql chapter and have a good understanding of inserts, alter's and selects.

    My question is in regards to typing in sql commands in a telnet client.

    I am using Secure Crt.

    I am playing about trying to add some Jokes. I copied a Joke from a website. It was only a one liner. However when I pasted it in the right place as it is too large for the line in secure crt client it goes onto the next line. The cursor than makes 2 page breaks and it messes up the query. Even when I type a ; and return in the hope I would get an error and have to start the query again it still just wonlt accept it and i have to log off and back on.

    What am I doing wrong and how can you past large lines of code in a sql query?

    Thanks!

    hmm if I do the query say in notepad, then past the whole thing it seems to work fine.

    i.e

    insert into Jokes
    (JokeText, JokeDate) values
    ("How can you get four suits for a dollar? - Buy a deck of cards.", "2002-08=01");

    HOwever if I try to paste the joke - How can you get four suits for a dollar? - Buy a deck of cards into sql half way through typing the query thats when it messes up the format.

    That's just the way that Telnet services work (I am assuming that SecureCRT is something similar).
