Positioned Fixed Top & Bottom? IE

Simple question can a banner and footer be stuck to the top and the bottom of the browser and have the content flow behind it?

So there is almost a window for the content in the middle.

I assume its ok in IE8 but 7?

Any ideas?

AFAIK it works in IE7 and IE8, but not in IE6. There is a workaround however: http://ryanfait.com/position-fixed-ie6/
