Expansion of a community

Hi, my forum has been online for nearly 7months now and its doing ok.. At my forums there's requested to open up new section, its it always good to expand? and how would you know that when u expand the forums its going to get used? i hope this question make sense..

If there are requests for a new forum it probably means the topic is being posted about in a certain section of your site as that forum topic resembles what they want.

Just see how often people are posting about it and what sort of interest its generating. If you think its up to scratch then create the new forum.

Expanding is good but only if done right. Like if people start asking for a seperate forum for certain html tags and you do it just for the sake of expanding then your in trouble

Nothing is worse than a dead forum.

Only expand when YOU see the need for that extra forum. Bear in mind a lot of users suggest a lot of things but that doesn't make them right to implement.

Some software (such as vBulletin) allows you to merge forums together. If that's the case with you and the new forum isn't being used you can always merge it back into the most appropriate forum.

I agreed, I had open some new sub-forum in view that maybe same kind of topics can be grouped in individual sub-forum, it turns out that my members request me to merge them all togather again.
