My site is now listed in google, so now what?
I posted a question a little bit ago, about whether my sit had been indexed. Well if you search for trancesystem in google it comes up with my site!
But there not much chance of people knowing to type that out, so how do i go about finding my ranking for words like trance or music production. (my site is for trance music producers and dj's)??

Now That Your Site Is Listed In Google ... Start A Link Building Campaign

A good and quick technique to determine your page's ranking for given search terms is to do the following ...
1.) Enter your search term trance (for example).
2.) The default will bring up 10 pages per page, so you just add ... &num=100 ... to the end of the URL in the address bar to increase it to 100 pages per page.
3.) Then press the "Ctrl key" down and hold and press the "F key" on your keyboard (for Windows) and type in your page ... trancesystem.com ... then click "Enter" on the keyboard. If your page is not found then click "Cancel" and then click the "End key" on your keyboard and go to the next page and repeat this process until you find your page or come to the end which is usually only 10 pages. Once you memorize this process it shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes to search through a 1000 listings.
If you are only interested in knowing if your page ranks in the Top 3 pages, then another quick way is to use Marketleap's Online Tool.
What Marketleap says about their Keyword Verification Tool ...
Verify your website's placement with the Internet's Top Search Engines and Directories. Our verification tool will use the keyword phrase you provide to verify inclusion of your Website. If your site is not placed within the first three pages of the search engine's results we equate this to not being listed.

Does text in the ALT tag for graphics help? As my front page has very little text and a graphic on it?
Now to get found with important keywords.
This is what will move your pages up in the rankings.
Keep at it every day or at the very least on a weekly basis until your reach #1. Then work on the next keyword phrase, and so on and so on.
Link building is an ongoing process, and s/he who does it the best and has the most, wins.
Some keyword stats for you to ponder ...

An excellent way to start acquiring links is to search Google for places to list your site using the following queries ...
-----------------
"add url" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+url%22+music
"add site" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+site%22+music
"add page" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+page%22+music
"add link" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+link%22+music
---
"submit url" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22submit+url%22+music
"submit site" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22submit+site%22+music
"add page" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+page%22+music
"add link" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+link%22+music
---
"add your url" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22add+your+url%22+music
"add your site" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22ad...+site%22+music
"add your page" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22ad...+page%22+music
"add your link" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22ad...+link%22+music
---
"submit your url" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22su...r+url%22+music
"submit your site" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22su...+site%22+music
"submit your page" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22su...+page%22+music
"submit your link" music
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22su...+link%22+music
---
Also use ... register url, include url, etc., etc., etc.
Then, of course, replace our sample keyword (music) with other related keywords and keep the process going for as long as possible.
Also work on creating LOTS of resourceful Web pages, so that folks in your community will want to automatically link to them without you having to link back to them. While reciprocal links are beneficial to bring you non search engine traffic, the best way to increase your rankings is to acquire as many one-way links as you can.
And lastly, you must link out to some of the most important (high PageRank) sites in your community, and whether they link back or not is not the issue.

We highly recommend that you include a robots.txt file here ...

SEO TIP: Getting high rankings is ALL about links and linking, proper linking that is. Include your keywords in the Anchor Tag Text of ALL inbound links and interior links to your Home Page and the other important pages on your site. Create LOTS of pages and link them all to a Site Map page and list all your pages on the Site Map Page with keyword rich text descriptions, as well as a brief summary about each page.Last edited by Sharon & Roy; Jul 29, 2002 at 05:38.

It comes from Wordtracker and those numbers are not EXACT, but they do represent the best figures that are currently available.
There is a free trial available and the paid version is more comprehensive.
You can pay for day use or by the year.
It is EXTREMELY useful for keyword research, which in our opinion should command the majority of your SEO time (around 60%) for the average size Web site.Call For A FREE 1 Hour SEO Consultation 760-378-2539 (Pacific)
