    JQuery Cycle Plugin - won't start

    I'm having my first attempt as using JQuery (and working my way through my sitepoint books) and am a little stuck on the following.

    I am trying to put the cycle plugin into a web page (on my local machine using xampp) and whilst my 1st images appears it looks as though the actual plugin will no start.

    For reference here is my code.

    In the main page head element,

    HTML Code:
    <head>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4/jquery.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://127.0.0.1/promos/scripts/jquery.cycle.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    {literal}
    $(document).ready(function() {
        $('.slideshow').cycle({
    		fx: 'fade'
    	});
    });
    {/literal}
    </script>
     </head>
    and in another page(called by the main page)

    HTML Code:
    <div class="slideshow">
    		<img src="http://127.0.0.1/promos/images/LandingA.jpg" width="500" height="334" />
    		<img src="http://127.0.0.1/promos/images/LandingB.jpg" width="500" height="334" />
    		<img src="http://127.0.0.1/promos/images/LandingA.jpg" width="500" height="334" />
    		<img src="http://127.0.0.1/promos/images/LandingB.jpg" width="500" height="334" />
    		</div>
    Any suggestions to why it will not start (running Firefox)

    Thanks

    It would seem removing the literal tags and placing this in a blank file results in it working fine.

    Any suggestions to why this will not fire? I'm sure the literal tags are in the correct position.
