    Question Images not loading

    Hello,

I got a bit of an issue with my web site images. I've had some problems with my images not loading. The coding is correct, but something they just do not appear. And it's not a broken image, either. Broken images have that little "x" (depending on the browser I guess), but this just shows a blank spot.

When I refresh the web page, the images finally appear.

What could be the cause of this? How can I resolve this?

    Thanks for your help.

    My URL is www.bookreviewcafe.com

I forgot to add it. My mistake.

Honestly, I do not know whether they run apache. I'll call them and ask them the details.

Works fine for me -- it could be a temporary glitch with your host or your computer's cache. It happens. By the way, Marc, I recognize you from BURST!Media's forums where I've read some of your posts in their member's area. Nice to see you here.

There is a problem in IE it seems where images and sometimes full sites just won't load or show up. If you minimize it then they appear.

I noticed in your code that you are not defining the width and height of the images. This might have something to do with it. Most likely though it's a problem with the server not spitting them out.

You said it's not a problem with the code, but if you use a wysiwyg editor it might somehow have your code trying to fetch the image from your computer instead of the server. Some programs have glitches that sometimes do not convert your code to a correct url.

Is there a particular page it's happening on or is it random?

It interesting that you said that.

I often get this same problem here at SitePointForums after I've been viewing it for a while.

No degree of Re/Load Image (contextual menu) or Reload Images (View Menu) will get them to load.

This is a special p.i.t.a thanks to the buttons inside the posts (profile, pm,...) as they have long alt tags which will 'define' the width and height attributes of an image when they are not set in the html).

As it invariably happens after a while of being on here, I am of the opinion that it is something to do with the browser cache being full.

This in itself is odd as the load time for every page I view here is never swift as the images (buttons, etc...) always seem to be loading from the server and not the cache.

Thanks for all your help. I've only seen the problem on the home page and this page:

    http://www.bookreviewcafe.com/CURRENTINTERVIEWS.HTM

All the other pages do not have a lot of images.

Actually, a few days ago I splurged and bought Macromedia's Homesite program. I like this HTML editor.

I also had a few complaints that the banners were not working. That's a Burst problem.

I know that the code for forums states to get a "fresh" copy of the page on each visit so the person is able to see the latest posts. Your cache is probably full so it isn't able to make room for some of the images. The obvious solution is to increase the size of your cache and how much it can hold. Have you tried that?

Thanks for all your help. I've only seen the problem on the home page and this page:

Marc I noticed you have the url in all capital letters. Do you ever use capital letters in your image names? I think it's unix servers that require everything to be written in small letters. That's good practice anyway because it's required for xhtml.

I also remembered, if your files do not have a .jpg or .gif extension, some browsers will not display them but they do not have the broken image x. Like if you have an image saved with the .bmp or .png extension.
