    The Rumour Mill

Rumour has it that Microsoft are purchasing Yahoo sometime this year. Does this mean the end of Looksmart providing MSN??? Does this mean I'm gonna cry cos my listing in Yahoo is buried??

Until I read an official source I'm not going to buy into that rumor.

First of all with Microsoft already in Anti-Trust trouble this would just be throwing gasoline on the fire.

Second of all why would ANYONE buy Yahoo? No matter what you pay it'll be overpriced and Yahoo doesn't exactly run at a high profit margin.

I think that MS buying LookSmart is a far more likely to happen.

I was about to say maybe they're after the name, but why would MicroSoft need to do that?

From what I've heard Looksmart seem to be suffering a bit after introducing their PPC program, do you think MSN would buy Looksmart as is, or just keep the data, and remodel it Microsodt stylee??

I agree, I remember posting a similar comment back when this site was webmaster-resources.com and only had a few members I was shot down in flames that day. Alot has changed since 1999, but one thing remains the same.....Most dot com businesses are pathetic pieces of **** unless they're combined with a real business

    cheers!

I think MS would buy LookSmart as is, probably make a few changes to it, such as get rid of that PPC crap, and then just turn it into MSN LookSmart and continue to use it to feed their search results.

Think about it, what doesn't MS (MSN) own as far as a website goes? News? msnbc. Email? hotmail. Portal? MSN. Expedia, that one car buying site, so on and so forth. They don't own a search provider though, so I see them buying a search engine or directory a logical step, and LookSmart would be at the top of the list.

I really don't see why they would buy Yahoo when they are already working with Looksmart and could get them at a much cheaper rate. And if MSN get rid of LS' stupid pay-per-click system in the process then I'll be a very happy man.

So that'll be EDS buying them then?

Sorry - HUGE bias here - I've worked on projects under
their initiative and found out JUST how stupid an idea
a corporate structure can manage to come up with.
