    co.uk & com

I've begrudgingly paid Looksmart to be listed in MSN, but the problem I have is that my listing does brilliantly in msn.co.uk, and sucks in msn.com.

What are the differences between these two sites???

I did a search on 'discount shoes' on both sites and the results seem to be the same.

You come up #1 for 'sugar plum designs' on both..maybe msn.com takes a bit longer to update its search index than .co.uk

Sorry, should've explained it's a different site I'm on about. Try doing a search for hotels. The #5 site on co.uk is nowhere to be seen on .com

The only thing that I can think of is that there are more regional sites on each search. .co.uk domains are more prevalent in the .co.uk search than in the .com search. This may tip the scales a bit.

It's a .com site. I'm not allowed to post the URL, my boss gave me a ticking off last time.

It's a strange one, I alsways thought that MSN.co.uk and .com used the same Looksmart database, but it they do, they must use different algorithms

Maybe...and you can't really find out anything from LS or Inktomi either. It's almost as if nobody works at those companies.

I know, especially Looksmart. When they do get back to you, they give you a completely useless answer.

Moonman, it's because you're in the MSN 'UK directory,' I would think.
So naturally because of this you get more prominence than you do in the global directory.

Sorry moonman, do you mean you paid to go in the Global Directory? Is it a global site, or UK specific?

I think .co.uk and .com are independant of each other the results are completely different.

Well, the results are initially different as MSN.co.uk uses it's UK directory first, followed by the US directory, followed by Inktomi.
MSN.com uses the US directory first, then Inktomi.
So it's not completely different, it just depends on your region.

I paid for the looksmart.com directory, and it's now a global site.

I recieved word from Looksmart this morning that "MSN are currently testing changes to their search algorithm".

I'm guessing this is yet more Looksmart BS.
