Is anyone making money advertising?

Hi everybody,

I want to start a website and I want it to be supported by advertising.

I know that advertising is in a slump right now but is there anyone here who has recently sold Internet advertising and what their experience(s) were.

1)Specifically, I want to know and if advertisers are willing to buy space or is space going begging.

2)Could you tell me what the current CPM rates are?

Thanks for the advice, most of the newsgroups are moderated by groups that want to sell you something and it's so hard getting "real" answers.

To be true, yes the advertising market is very slow right now. But its almost impossible to get advertisers for your site right away. Reasons? Simply because in the starting it won't be getting targetted audience. After few months, you will start getting repeated traffic. For this all, one needs to manage a website on regular basis, add fresh content and needs to shows its presence to the visitors. After this all, since you would start receiving targetted traffic there is a chance that you might start getting one or two small compaigns in a month.

During this all, ofcourse you would'nt leave the banner space blank, right? So, you can try placing affiliate links from few of the sites I am listing below. They all offer some pretty good deals which even pay you for each click/lead and etc.

I have a campaign running at $9 CPM, I had a $12 CPM one a couple of months ago.

How much you can get though depends on what type of site you run.

But aspen, when you started this website out, you did'nt got these pricy compaigns right away. Am I right?

You must have run affiliates banner on your website until you start getting repeated visitors and targetted audience.

Anyways, maybe I am wrong.

If you want to make money, don't just think about selling advertising space. Think about using affiliate marketing and earning money selling other peoples' products, and generating leads for affiliate programs.

Anyone can join an affiliate program and run pay-for-performance based programs. Pay per lead, pay per sale. There are so many sites out there that the supply of CPM advertising is so high, and the demand so low since websites are a dime a dozen in *quantity*.

I earn 50-60% of my income from affiliate marketing and currently earn a living from web marketing.

Yeah, just find products geared toward your audience. Amazon.com is the most obvious choice if you can't think of any - I use them myself.

I've got a daily targetted newsletter planned in addition to my site which I plan to have advertising on and I'm sure I can get Amazon on board both. I'm still working out a few more ideas to squeeze revenue.

You don't say what marketplace your trying to break into - this will be a big factor as well due to there being a lot of websites on pretty much everything these days.

One of the best areas you can get a ROI is affiliate marketing, however the big ones out there aren't always the best - we've recently partnered with an eCommerce store dedicated to our niche and are now drawing about 3000% more income than previously (and that isn't 3000% of zero!). Bear that in mind when your shopping around.
