Day 4: The Great Photography Competition

I hope you're enjoying the missions so far.

You have 24 hours from now to plan your fourth mission.
In 24 hours time, submission opens. In 48 hours time, submission closes and the next mission will be announced.

Your fourth mission is to take a photo of ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

    An insect OR
A composition of three types of fruit

Images must be uploaded to this thread as attachments.

Images should be either JPG or PNG and should measure between 900 - 2000 px length for the longer side of the photograph. DPI doesn't matter.

    The Rules:

ALL WORK MUST BE YOUR OWN!

Photos must be shot between the time a topic is posted and the time of judging. Photos from five years ago are not allowed.

Photos must be submitted before midnight of the day.

Entrants may take part as many times as they like, but an entrant may only win once.

No goofy Photoshop effects or overdone photo-manipulation; Entrants are allowed to correct colour, contrast, and make minor tweaks such as removing litter or distracting objects from a photo, but no surreal colours or crazy filters.

Oh noes I'm confused...haven't we still got around 16 hours to submit for day 3? I thought you were waiting 48 hours between each challenge before posting the next? My brain will have to start working overtime!

Don't be. If this was a professional assignment, multiple things would be flying at you all the time.

haven't we still got around 16 hours to submit for day 3?
Yes. Submission for Day 3 is still open.

Submission for Day 4 will remain open until Saturday night.

    And just a heads up...

Day 5 submission will open tomorrow and run until Sunday night, so look out for those topics soon.

I thought you were waiting 48 hours between each challenge before posting the next? My brain will have to start working overtime!
    Think of it as;

    Day 1 - Monday

    Day 2 - Wednesday

    Day 3 - Friday

    Day 4 - Saturday

    Day 5 - Sunday

Trying to fill the unforgiving minute
with sixty seconds' worth of distance run.

Thanks for the heads up Shaun, just threw me a bit as this is the first overlap of days/challenges since the comp started (time-zone related perhaps..)

Yeah - I screwed up and did everything a day early! There will be no post this afternoon as this is already it.

Sorry for making this so much harder than it has to be!

I won't be around to close of submissions this afternoon so I'm just going to have to trust you all

I'm also fairly confused on the time. Hawk said to pay no attention to the time stamp of his posts and this would seem correct because the time stamp reads 4 July 17.26 for 2nd day and 4 July 17.30 for 3rd day.

I'm in Sydney so GMT+10 but no idea what the time stamp shows.

Hawk - you said sitepoint time is GMT+12. Is it possible you could put the SPT and date with each announcement?

I'm thinking I've got today, Saturday, until 2pm (SPT-2) to post my submission for day 4? Hope so cos I'm going out now to find me some insects :-)

Edit: Ah, I just realised I can change the time stamp to display in my local time (I was seeing GMT-7 oops). That's a bit better now. So still thinking I have until 2pm Sat for day 4 submission.

I thought it would be easy finding insects to photograph but as it's winter there are very few about. This is a pretty small wierd looking spider. Not sure what type it is.

Hi. I spent a few hours yesterday trying to get good pictures of the only bugs I could find (ants...), but then I found this beautiful, colorful fellow. Its colors made my day...

so I guess I have two questions, firstly, how long is left in this part of the competition and secondly as arachnids technically aren't insects are pictures of spiders acceptable for this round of the competition?

    Thanks for the clarification!

Hi guys. Here is my submission for Assignment 4.

Took a lot of pictures of insects this morning, and realized that they don't stay and pose for very long. So this may be a bit blurry in spots, but thought it was cool.

Thanks for your critiques. I'm a newbie and just trying to learn.
My camera is a Canon A620 Powershot with a macro lens. That's about all I know. I was messing around with the adjustments and took so many shots, I'm not quite sure what settings this one was on...
    Thanks!

Probably should have zoomed in closer on the spider, but it seemed a shame not too show off all of his/her hard work.
Not sure how long spiders live, but every year I have the same kind of spider in the same place in the garden.

Some great pictures here, I love Mike's spiderweb. I'm amazed how clear it looks - is it because of dew?

Unfortunately, due to the miserable weather, insects were out the question for me, so I decided to raid my kitchen for fruit. The only 3 types I could find were raisins, sultanas and blueberries! I first tried a few different compositions on a plate, but it wasn't really working, so I substituted the plate with my girlfriend's tongue, and after a few floor bound blueberries, finally got a shot I liked!
