    domainname as ebay User ID

Some people use something like "mydomainname_com" as their nickname in ebay to promote their website. does ebay allow this? and in your opinion is it effective?

I find it hard to believe a company would ban that sort of thing. If anything, it would be most effective in branding your domain (you might remember a name if you see it over and over) compared to simply driving in traffic. The same applies on these forums where people use their domain name as their name. I personally don't because I prefer more originality and freedom.

    Delpino,

I have a company, T-Molding.com, where I use the domain as the Ebay ID. The domain is the official name of the company as well.

EBay has never complained, and I've had it for over 2 years. They did stop me from linking to the site in the auctions a few months ago, but have not said anything about the name.

I can't tell you if it's effective. Since it's not a link I can't tell in my site stats if visitors saw me on EBay or not. I'll probably start asking "Where did you hear about us?" in my order form - but haven't.

    Not on Ebay.co.uk

Strange, but I just tried to change my ID on eBay UK as a test, to my domain name. I got the following message:-

    Please select another User ID
Sorry! Your User ID may not contain a Web site address (for example, www.xzy.com). This is to encourage the use of nicknames on eBay. Please try again.

Your User ID may contain letters, numbers and the symbols below:

    Letters a-zA-Z
    Numbers 0-9
    Asterisks *
    Dollar signs $
    Exclamation point !
    Hyphens -
Parentheses (left and right) ( )
    Periods .
    Underscore _
Now I've seen user ID's that are URL's on eBay UK before. They must have stopped it recently.

thats strange.... it must be a new policy. Or you could try dropping the "www." off the beginning of it.

I have actually visited the sites of serveral ebay sellers from the name being the url. I hate to wait for the auction time to run out and often check out the site for similar items. I think it is a great idea. Plus if I have a question I can contact you through you site rater that waiting for ebay to send out the email. I think they say it could be 24-48hrs before a question is sent to the seller. Instant gratification and all you know.
