Image area as percentages- need help

I'm new to all this and maybe I'm approaching it wrong, but I have been trying to include percentages in my HTML image tags rather than absolute numbers for width and height, especially for banners, so they display consistently across various screen sizes, etc. However, I find I am doing a trial and error apprach to get height to width ratios correct. Is there a formula? In other words,if I want a 750 x 250 pixel image to display 100% wide by X, how do I figure the X?

The image tag doesn't support percentages in its height and width tags. At least in my previous experience it doesn't.

For banners, you should defintely specify the exact pixels. In fact, using percentages in images will always give you trouble. It won't work!

I would not use any percetages in my image tags, cause first I think it does'nt even work and second if it would it would not look too good.

Since you are making it in a graphic program it will always be pixels, never percentages..
