Curves

In Photoshop, how do you go about creating the curves that I see on the top menus of Webmaster Resources? I know that it's something simple, but I can't work it out!

This can be done in 5 easy steps.

Step #1: Create a new image. (Preferably larger than the actual image will be).

Step #2: Go to channels and create a new channel.

Step #3: Create a rectangular selection and fill it with white. Now deselect (Ctrl+D).

Step #4: Apply a gaussian blur of about 3-7 pixels, use whichever setting will create the curve you want. (You should be able to tell when it looks the way you want.)

Step #5: Go to Image>Adjust>Levels and slide the black and white arrows towards the middle until the curves are smoothed out. (You may have to play with this a little.)

Or, if you have photoshop 5.5, there is a marquee shaped like a square w/rounded edges. You could just use that.
