Hi, this should be really simple, but I'm working to a deadline and I need to work out how to create oval boxes in photoshop, which will be used to put text in and make buttons. The question is - how do you go about making the buttons? Is there a draw box tool? If there is, I can't find it! Any help is much appreciated!
It really is simple, if I correctly understand what you mean by "oval boxs".
Open a new document the size of the button you want to make. Next, create a new layer.
Then pick the "eliptical marquee tool" from the toolbar. (If you don't see it, press shift+m, which cycles through the marquee selection tools. Move your mouse to the upper left corner of the document and drag to the opposit corner.
Fill, paint, or do whatever you want to with your oval selection and then deselect.
Just use your text tool to put the text on top of it.
Because your oval is on its own layer you can apply Photoshop 5's cool layer effects like bevel and emboss to it.

If you want round corner rectangle selections then do the following:
Switch to the channels tab
create a new alpha channel.
use the sqaure marquee to make a box
fill it with white
deselect
MENU filter>blur>gaussian blur> about 2-20 pixels
MENU image>adjust>levels (or Ctrl-L)
slide the shadow/highlights towards centre.
switch back to layers tab and click on any layer
MENU select>load selections; in channels select the alpha channel
