Web page goes on and on and...

I have a page I am working a page that when you get to the end of the page it doesn't stop. There is whole lot of dead space at the bottom. What are some typical causes for a page to do this?

If need be I can enclose the source code. I am not sure anyone wants to wade through 450 lines of code though.

I just need to know someplace to start looking.

lots of linebreaks ? empty paragraphs ? <p>&nbsp;</p> ? a table or spacer image with an overly large height definition ?

    Incomplete file

    Thanks guys,

First, I put the file up but it is not done yet. Links may not work and images may be broken. But the source code is all there.

Second, it has not been tested on a PC yet.

Third, I discovered the appears to an issue with NS 4.79 on a Mac.

Fourth, I attached the source code in case you don't fool with the link.

    Thanks again,

I couldn't open up the link you provided to your site. It just didn't load. I downloaded the zip file and viewed your page. It works fine for me.

It ends at the bottom. I noticed that you have javascript popups over the images for descriptions. I think that might be your problem. It will cause problems for you especially on older versions of Netscape on the Macintosh.

I am on a PC running Windows XP Professional and IE 6 and it works fine for me. I think it's that javascript that may be giving you the problem. But it's just a guess based on past experiences.

Thanks for looking at it, psychedelic.

I don't know why the link didn't work. I tried it in NS4, NS6, IE5, and Opera5 on my Mac and it opened. I didn't try on my PC. I'll delete the popups and see if that helps.

    Thanks again, ListerMint

    Redux,

I checked for your suggestions, but didn't find anything.

    Thanks for your help.

maybe if ur using an editor, u could have got a lot of references of a space- & nbsp .. check out the source code for them. maybe u should check the bottom of the source.above "/body" . ull find something unusual. if u still dont, try get it validated from w3g.org and if there's a prb, it'll be pointed out

    Thanks for input, Ruchir

I use BBEdit and hard code all my pages. I don't have a very high opinion of webpage editors for some of the reasons you mentioned.

I'll check out "above the </body>" tag, although I'm not sure what you mean by "something unusual".

I'll give the W3C idea some thought. I find them to be very picky and frustrating. They are helpful.

How is the weather in India right now? I hail from Iowa in USA and we got HOT temperatures (95 to 100 and no rain) right now. This has nothing to do anything, just curious.

I can open the link now, it works.

I'll check this for you tomorrow when I go to work because we have Macs at work, G4s and G3s running OSX and OS 9. I'm pretty sure it's a Mac issue.

Ive had this happen to myself a couple of times. I write everything by hand though. I had people look through my coding and they never did find anything. But when I rewrote the entire page, the same, somehow the space managed to disappear. It also only happened with certain browsers. Id be interested if you guys find anything! And it CANT just be a Mac issue because Im on WinME.
