Well, while I agree with this in theory, there are an infinite amount of topics that are more nerdy than LAN parties. For instance, I could make the average girl fall asleep in less than five minutes by talking Object Oriented Programming.

I generally totally avoid talking computers around girls. They are incredibly uninterested in listening to that. In fact, they are generally pretty uninterested in listening at ALL.

You're right. The average girl. But there's very few actual average girls in existence.

I dream about girls who I can talk to about things I'm interested in. I know they're out there. Haven't found them. But I've got faith...

Tell me if I'm not being realistic - that may be my main problem - but I'm looking for a person that interests me rather than a person that I'd have to pretend to be interested in. Sofar I've found a little from column B and I'm looking for a little from column A.

Okay, word-nit-pickers, MOST girls are not interested in talking technology. I've found some, but they are quite rare, and when you find them, they will not want to talk about the latest GeForce or OO practices. Women seems to be more interested in what you can do with technology than technology itself - but as I've actually met so few tech-women, thats a very unreliable observation. I'm sure there are exceptions, though - I just haven't met one.

My VB teacher is female. She really likes VB.

My last girlfriend thought it was extremely cool that I was developing a website about sex ( http://www.nuching.com/, not online yet ).

I'm single now, but let me tell you that so far 3 different girls have expressed high levels of interest in my website and the person producing it...

Yes, women take some interest in the fact that I'm a web developer too, but they couldn't care less about XHTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, or dotnet. I can talk about a web site to some extent, but not the technology. Maybe Nicky would be an exception if she existed?

I would think that your partner wouldn't have to be enthralled with all your hobbies.. but it would be nice to be able to explain what it is you do and the problems you may have encountered on a given day.

I have tried to explain OOP to some of my friends and I end up having to, well, encapsulate it in an object that they can understand, leaving them with no no direct access to the underlying methods.

It's true that you don't have to match up every interst to find a good match, but it is nice when someone can have a basic understanding of most of the things going on in your life.

While the other person doesn't have to share interests, they should at least be able to listen to you talk about your interests without them dozing off.

I have the opposite problem. I think guys get scared when I start to talk about dogs (my other hobby).

I'm not talking necessarily about technology; I'm talking about someone with similar interests to me. I haven't ever found anybody like that IRL.

Even my friends have different interests to me. That doesn't mean they're not interesting - I really mean that - I need to find somebody with interests like mine.

However, I'd love to sit down with Nicky and have a good old yarn about the ALT tag.

I don't think similar interests in something necessary for a starting relationship. My last girlfriend and I were into totally different scenes. Her being quite a hippy, and me being well me. She was 25, me 20. It didn't matter at the time. We had a great time together while it lasted.

In fact I regret breaking up with her.

Why did you break up with her though (if you don't mind my asking)?

I say that's true. I had a good time with my last girlfriend, but in the end we broke up - just broke up because I guess we were too different.
