    Is this against SE rules?

If you have smaller webpages from the free sites that are maybe just one or two pages and you put a link up there for your big site, is that spamming?

It wouldn't be a redirection page or anything, just a page that isn't as big but does have a link to my other site.

    Its borderline.

Google states that making links just for the sole purpose of increasing your link popularity is wrong. However this is one of those things that are very difficult to police, and if you already have the sites then its not like you made them just for link popularity. A couple pages won't hurt you. A thousand might.

    Yeah, it's borderline.

If the pages you mention have relevant and unique content then it should be fine. If they are mirrors of some content from somewhere else (ie your main site, or each other) then this is not good. Google does try to detect and block mirrored content. So make sure each one has some unique, meaningful content.

Also, if they are on free hosts then the search engines will not give them much important. It may not be worth it.

what host a site is on does not matter in the slightest. A site on geocities can easily rank higher than SitePoint if you put enough work into it (so... maybe not easily... but it is possible). A brand new site on geocities will rank no lower than a site with it's own domain.

What used to be a problem with geocities (which is to say I'm not sure if it is now) is that sites on free servers tend to get a lot of 'downtime', so if your site is down when the engines come crawling, tough luck until the next crawl at least.
Apart from that, I don't see a problem.

    Second Question

Having maybe five to eight keywords in one line, but the text is the same color as the background?
