    Left borders

    I have a site that I would like to rework and need a bit of help. Here is the site:
    http://www.acleverpenny.com/AllThingsChristmas/

    Is it possible to continue using the left borders while I am trying to make the site xhtml compliant? What size is the safest to make the border (which I now have as a background) so it works in different browsers and display settings? I really like the marble background. I have tried doing the entire background with the marble, but didn't like the effect on the top, bottom and right. When I created a table and had the marble in one column, the image only tiled in IE, not in Netscape.

    Thanks,
    Deborah

    I assume you mean the red stripe running vertically down your page? If that's what you mean then yes, you can make your site xHTML compliant and keep that image. Do it by setting the BODY attribute like so:

    body { margin: 0px; background: #ffffff url(../images/bg_mainpage.gif); }

    You can ditch the rest of the stuff but I left it in there just in case.
