there are people here at sitepoint that know how google works much better than me but i think i will help you get started as you sound very newbie to google's techniques.
your first step should be to look through you usage logs and see if google is indexing your site, meaning does google even know if your site exists. you will know if google is indexing your site if you see Googlebot as a user agent in your stats. if there is no user agent called googlebot in your stats then you should go to http://www.google.com/addurl.html and add your URL for the next monthly update. it doesn't really matter how big or great you are if google doesn't know about you and the only way they will know about you is if you tell it. you have to remember that there are 2.1billion documents that google searches so you have to help it find your site.
basically as i understand it the next thing you have to understand is that google works via the relative page rank that they give your site. the page rank is calculated on the link popularity and importance of your site and of those sites that link to you. to find out much more info than we would ever be able to tell you here in the forums i suggest you go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and google explains it all for you.
also you have to remember that not all search engines work the same and there are many resources here online explaining the methodology on how each one works and how you as webmaster/emarketer can improve your listings.
anyway i hope that i have been some help and that you strike some luck in getting up the reults.
thanks for the reply. Actually I have tried several times to enter the link into http://www.google.com/addurl.html and it didn't seem to have any effect.
Anyway, I will just wait and see, and also check out the other link you mentioned.
Ciao-Nina

How long has it been since you first submitted your site? They only reindex about once a month.
