Where else to market my site?
I have a PHP script generator that I want to market to the PHP community.
I have the top listing in Overture for my two favorite search phrases. I may add more phrases when I can afford it and I works out all the kinks in the site (like not getting any real interest in product, despite good traffic).
I am getting good traffic right now from HotScripts. I submitted to PHPBuilder, but have not seen it active yet. I submitted my link to the top SE's I could think of, and will keep plugging away at that. That takes a while to get listed, but overture is bringing me a few people every day.
But this will only yield about 500-1000 visitors a month (best guess). Any other ideas?Last edited by galt; Jun 28, 2002 at 19:01.

What about Google? DMOZ? Yahoo!? Are you in those? Google, for me, brings in the majority of my traffic so I cannot imagine what it would be like with it. Also, you didn't mention ResourceIndex.com (basically CGI-Resources.com) - are you listed there? There are also a seemingly infinite amount of smaller script directories you could list yourself in if you do a few searches. Good luck.

I would submit it to www.hotscripts.com, it's free and they list paid, as well as free scripts. I get quite a bit of traffic from them from their remotely hosted category.

Site launched 10 days ago, and I have both a day job and a life. Link or SE counting is a bit premature.
Links is an obvious next step for me. That takes time to seek them out, add them to my links table, send email. Then I hope for 20% to 50% linkbacks. The good news is that they cook for years.
I started this thread hoping for some specific pointers to communities people here like, some URL's to check out, and maybe some new ideas (for me anyway). Maybe something like ebay for software.

It might be an idea to give the program to a few sites for free so that buyers can see the product working in a commercial enviroment anf then feel confident that the product works. also this can be a promotion for you having a link or logo at the bottom saying that this site is powered by.........
also if you target sites taht reach the target market that you are looking for then this could be cheaper that the ppc's.
