Question What does the <searchignore></searchignore> tag do?

    Does anyone know what the
    Code:
    <searchignore></searchignore>
tags do? I've seen it in the source code of several Web sites, but I have no clue what it does, or what it's used for.

I would expect it is some "proprietary nonsense" that tells a specific search engine to ignore anything within the tags. Without seeing a "live example" I don't know for sure.

Yeah, you're probably right. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Searching for information on this and the only page I found that contains any reference to that tag is this one. So most likely the tag doesn't exist at all and any references to it are someone's attempt to tell search engines what to ignore by inventing their own tag.

I found this for you and it has an explanation, it's apparently a custom XML element for JSP connected "devices":
